ZOPO, a Chinese smartphone manufacture, today announced the world’s first deca-core Android smartphone at the Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona. ZOPO isn’t exactly very big outside China and a few other Asian markets such as India, so not many of you might have heard of the brand earlier. Dubbed the Speed 8, the smartphone was introduced today by MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo. It happens to be the first smartphone to be powered by the MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core SoC which was announced last year. The Helio X20 is a tri-cluster SoC with four ARM Cortex-A72 cores clocked at up to 2.5GHz, four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.0GHz, and four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.4GHz.
The front of the handset is dominated by a 5.5-inch 1080 x 1920 Full HD resolution display and two speaker grilles on the top and bottom. In terms of memory, the Speed 8 impresses with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. The smartphone is no slouch on the imaging front as well, with a 21MP Sony IMX230 sensor at the back and an 8MP selfie camera on the front. The primary shooter comes with phase detection auto focus and a dual-tone LED flash while the front-facing camera includes a dedicated front LED flash to help take great selfies even in low light conditions. Below the rear camera, the smartphone includes a circular fingerprint sensor similar to quite a few other recently announced smartphones. Connectivity wise, the Speed 8 offers support for 4G LTE networks, NFC, dual SIM cards, and the latest USB Type-C port for charging and data sync. Rounding off the package is a decently large 3600mAh capacity battery, which should help deliver pretty good battery life. Unsurprisingly, the smartphone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. The ZOPO Speed 8 is expected to be available for pre-order starting March 7th
