Cheaply and well in the Chinese edition

Feb 6, 2016| Category: phones|

Chinese brands more boldly enter our market and gaining on him more and more popular, mainly due to a very good price-quality ratio. Their presence especially observed in the lower price ranges, because a relatively small money seem to offer a really good deal. One such smart phones provide its users far too little is costing about 130 euro Meizu M2. Here's a brief test.

Meizu M2 - test

Opportunity year?

Meizu M2 is made in the same style as the other models of the company, that we are dealing here with a smooth, uniform housing with rounded edges, which many associate with Apple products. Maybe not the most visionary project smartphone with which we are dealing, however, has its own charm and makes the Meizu M2 holds up very nicely (though the whole thing is a bit too slippery for our taste). The device has a narrow frame is thin and the fingers simply easily fit into it. The workmanship also makes a very good impression, because the structure is rigid, there are no unnecessary gaps, and the whole is folded almost exemplary. Overall, the designers of the brand hardly fail and Meizu M2 is another decent result of their work.

Buttons to change the volume and switching on the phone, providing a clear and pleasant feedback, placed in the upper part of the right edge of the casing, headphone - the right side of the top edge, a micro-USB port - at the bottom center. So everything is in here, as far as typical places outside the system keys, which are typically "meizuowate", which is completely different than any smartphone to any other company. Below the screen are mounted large mechanical home button, the surface of which also serves as a touch-button reversing. So if you want to go back to the previous screen Android, it is enough that lightly touch it, and if you want to return to the home screen - you have to push it. And what of the screen to switch between programs? He is not, at least not in a typical humanoid form, because it was replaced by a small strip of four icons, caused gesture: swipe from the bottom edge of the screen. Such is the vision of designers and you have to get used to it.

In summary, at the beginning Meizu M2 impressive. The Company's products have long been broken are not in the hands "Chinese". Yes, some may not match their appearance and how much is associated with a brand of smartphones. However, that does not bother or who think they are not similar to anything else, return the favor good convenience of use and quality.

Software, connectivity and multimedia

After starting the Meizu M2 eyes appears, of course, based on the Android overlay system Meizu called Flyme OS. In the case of our test phone was its foundation Android 5.1. Traditionally, it arouses very mixed feelings and forces to ensure that certain things to learn from scratch. So if your ideal mobile system is pure Android, you should stay out of this phone from a distance. But if you like to experiment, this is something for you, because the experiments abound and there is no shortage of three things: references to iOS, interesting ideas and strange no achievements.

The most important references to iOS relate to appearance, the lack of a standard drawer of tools and how to switch between applications (we mean mentioned on the previous page bar with four icons instead of the classical Androids screen switching).

With interesting ideas especially worth mentioning are: controller Smart Touch allows you to quickly switch between running programs, easy ejecting tray notifications, etc., And a handy search system that runs swipe from bottom to top.

Part is the little things. For example, you can still see that the Polish language was introduced to the software Meizu little Dirty. Sometimes the translation looks strange and not within designated him space, sometimes it does not make sense (for example, a submenu with the settings of the screen is described as SMS), and sometimes ... it does not, and in some places there is chinese. However, some niedoróbek is annoying: a very strange work here marking text input and stumbled upon an unusual problem with the tools that are part of smartfonowego Microsoft Office. Well, we could not enter the e-mail account Microsoft, because the on-screen keyboard hiding immediately after it appears. Such specific, smaller and larger, niedoróbek there would be more here, but I already know where we are going: the system Meizu does not appeal to those who like the classic Android and count on a completely trouble-free operation. In the field of communication with the world are visible some compromises, resulting directly from the price of Meizu M2, but rather should not disturb too many potential users of this phone. Meizu M2 is equipped with LTE modem, place two cards nano-SIM (unfortunately, using a second card, you have to come to terms with the loss of card slot micro-SD) and dual-band Wi-Fi (a rarity in this class of equipment) for it was cut from his host USB, NFC, FM radio and feature active noise cancellation. Fortunately, at least no one had the idea to deprive him of the proximity sensor. The call quality is good and during the test does not stumble on the bigger problems with the handset and a microphone, but during the interview you need to be careful that the microphone is at a sufficient distance from the mouth, because it has a fairly narrow field of "listening". For some, it may be useful for automatic recording of calls.

Multimedia features Meizu M2 are in the standard typical for this class of equipment. On the screen, you can play movies with a resolution of 1080p (UHD resolution is not supported) - including those benefiting from the opportunities HEVC codec (10-bit version of H.264 is not supported). Built-in speaker is placed in a location where it is easy to cover his hand during the game and watching movies, but if it is not blocked, a surprising power and enough common watch a cat video on YouTube;) In turn, the headphone output is correct. Depending on the used handsets and the song playing mostly we used the highest or nearly highest level of volume and would rather not occurred to us to think that it could have used one more, two plots regulation. Thus, most smartfonowych music lovers should be satisfied with the quality and volume, it provides Meizu M2. Of course, those most demanding will not be satisfied, because the equipment is poorly cooperates with more expensive handsets with higher demand for power output, and may complain of a flat response, but you have to remember that we write here about the smartphone for about 130 euro

720p screen, but with poor viewing angles

A five-inch screen with a resolution of HD smartphone for about 130 euro? Definitely it is not too common sight and usually involves some hooks. It is no different in this case, but it is not difficult to accept the compromises made. First of all, we are pleased that Meizu was not looking for savings in glass and covering them protective layers, so that the screen does not look too fast, easy to keep it clean, and the finger slides on it very smoothly. Theoretically, today should be really obvious things, but some cheaper smartphones can still come across a number of shortcomings in these fields. In addition, the matrix M2 Meizu good images of black, provides nicely saturated colors and at least our copy was free from blatant leakage problems backlight. For now, everything sounds very inviting, does not it? So it is time to point out a few problems.

First, the viewing angles are not ideal. Just look at the screen slightly to the side to see the colors no longer look as they should. There are large and disruptive change, but recall that the matrix is not a top-flight. Secondly, although the digitizer generally operate satisfactorily in our original time record brief touch instead of swipe, and sometimes we had to at some point touch the screen twice to the phone started to work. Again - no big deal, and it happened so rarely that it is not irritated, but we have to mention it. And thirdly, we have some reasons to believe that the screen M2 may have a problem with ghosts / afterimages. During testing, it happened that our Meizu for more than half an hour display screen home (we add that the brightness was then set to almost the maximum value, and the phone was warmed up by extensive tests), and after the several minutes it turned out that the matrix did not stop display home screen icons. After turning off the display for a long time disappeared in afterimages. The situation in which the problem occurred, is not likely to occur during typical use from any phone, so most buyers M2 will never see the effect. However, from our observations and experience shows that if we noticed such behavior during the testing of a smartphone, its owners a few, several months of use started to report problems with afterimages. We do not say that for sure will be the case for Meizu M2, because we have no idea how the device will act year after purchase, but rather should keep the receipt in a safe place;)

To sum up, on-screen Meizu M2 can say a lot of good. For a phone that costs about 130euro, it provides really a lot, but do not expect him do not know what, but because it is based on solutions and components slightly lower class.

Robust operating time

Battery capacity of around 2500 mAh is quite a lot for a 5-inch smartphone with a processor, which can be installed in the watch, and ensure expected results. Meizu M2 can run after charging to full on so long that one day very difficult to unload, and we think that most people will go I connected to the electricity grid every 2 days. During tests, often used with two SIM cards, navigation, Bluetooth, mobile hotspot and streaming music on the LTE network, and only once had to rescue the bank, energy ... but it was already after 10pm. Also, the rate of self-discharge at rest no hint of the hidden energy wasters that could unload an express smartphone lying on his desk. It is generally good and we believe that future users Meizu M2 will not complain about the duration of action. If he still does not load from zero to full for almost four hours ...

Nice quality pictures and videos

Cameras with a resolution of 13 megapixels some time ago found a home on a permanent basis in smartphones costing about 300 euro, and now more and more often to devices with even lower shelves, such as Meizu M2. In addition, the novelty is equipped with a 5-megapixel front camera. It sounds good, right?

Software

The software is quite sophisticated, as smartphone this money, because almost all of them were transferred to the more expensive models of the brand. There are therefore both all the very basic functions, as well as those more complex, even if the manual mode with adjustable ISO and such exotica as a digital level gauge and the function of separating the point of measuring the distance from the point of exposure. Generally camera software Meizu makes a good impression, Automatic mostly good deal with pairing settings and shoots really nice, but this tool has one significant drawback: speed. Startup time can sometimes be measured in seconds (sometimes he appears faster, sometimes slower), shutter lag and the time it takes for the display image after the execution, also do not belong to the shortest, and the autofocus in low light is and slow, and unreliable . You get used to it (without any reference point even faster, you can not notice), but Meizu M2 is not a smartphone for people who need a camera that is ready to use right out of the equipment out of his pocket.

Image quality

Image quality on the phone costs about 130 euro, is really good. Engineers Meizu has not once shown that they know how to pull a lot of really almost any photographic matrix, and once again proved that when it wants to, it can. Coloring images is pleasant, in the darker parts of the image are not hidden artifacts that are the result of actions overzealous noise reduction algorithm, and the tonal range is really good. Our only concerns relate to the fact that the mechanism of auto white balance sometimes chooses too cool color temperature, and the pictures, although built with 13 million pixels, the impression of soft and sharpness is not that they provide what better 13-megapikselowce. Well, do not expect miracles in low light, because the slow automation and long exposure times are ruining much of the night shots, but overall in its class for the time being you can not expect too much in this respect. After all, the camera Meizu M2 I see as an advantage

Camera

Meizu M2 allows you to record video with a resolution of Full HD. The picture quality is good - largely due to the fact that not poskąpiono memory space, and each second film is more than 2 MB. During filming, you can again manually activate the autofocus and exposure metering by touching the screen at the point you want to be sharp and well exposed, so there is no problem with recording people against the sky and other high-contrast scenes in which the auto exposure often gives too dark clips. Problems? Visible aliasing, but this is really nitpicking ... To sum up, there are no miracles, but as a smartphone for about 130 euro, is at least good.

Faster than smartphones with Snapdragon 410

In this price range is dominated by smartphones based on Snapdragonach series 400 and 200, so it mainly in relation to them to assess performance, Meizu M2 and located in the system media library. In terms of CPU performance is not much difference between a cheap Snapdragon 410 a MediaTekiem MT6735, because both systems are built with four similarly clocked core Cortex-A53. Major differences can watch the performance of the graphics chip, so Meizu M2 happens in games faster by up to several tens of percent of competing devices based on Qualcomm platform. Noteworthy is also that Meizu engineers decided on a data carrier eMMC 5.0 Samsung. After the tests, you can see that he does not lack capacity, which positively affects the speed of the equipment for everyday use.

Also during typical use Meizu M2 is performing at least satisfactorily. The software is well optimized, so that running smoothly, and 2 GB of memory provide decent support multitasking. Of course, when the equipment presses really hard, some shortcomings of computing power starting to show, but it is a bit like looking at the problems of strength, because the comparison Meizu M2 with top models, however slight exaggeration;) Bravo!

Summary

Wise proverb says that if something looks too good to be true, it probably is not true. We confirmed the validity of its more than once. Many of the smartphones we tested looked great in the tables with the specification, but after hitting the wall hard practice began to emerge hid them in the hooks. While the Meizu M2 positively surprised us, because although it has some shortcomings and clearly shows in which locations it was decided to compromise and cut costs, the price about 130 euro provides really a lot: good screen, very good equipment, great time operation, good performance and a lot of other things. We were worried that during the tests quickly come to light some problems with coverage, stability, performance, navigation and the regular shutdown of one of the two SIM cards, but nothing happened. Meizu M2 is really a phone that ... works. From our recommendation is only about underdeveloped software, and that sometimes unpleasant surprises strange problems with compatibility with tools and games. That's only major flaw that we saw in the Meizu M2 (of course - in the context of the price), but if you can turn a blind eye to it, soon you will feel that this is a good choice, because the competition in this price usually offer much less.

I hope that our mobile network operators finally sees the other brands of mobile phones and start to be introduced to the domestic market ensuring a diversity of products of this type and greater choice
